lol... Too funny... That's about as stupid as saying that online airplane ticket purchasing services wouldn't exist today if it wasn't for travel agencies that were the first to offer website services to their customers. There's absolutely zero connection between the two. Likewise, what Tesla did and what Toyota did have zero connection between the two. And most of all, despite Toyota's best propaganda efforts it's just a matter of time before hybrid cars are just as obsolete as travel agents.
I still think the Tesla 3 is too expensive for mainstream buyers. I was looking at used ones the other day in my area and some were selling for more than brand new. New Nissan Leaf looks pretty cool but driving range is OK.
its really not too expensive. plenty of mainstream buyers spend that kind of money. its more about vehicle desires and knowledge. granted, you're not going to grab much of the 20k camry crowd

Ignore the brand and model until AFTER you do a requirements analysis: What are your local trip requirements ... ~90% of your likely use. What are your long distance trip requirements to remote family and favorite vacations ... ~10% of your likely use. Can you afford to have a second, backup car? Let me share my experience with a Prius Prime and BMW i3-REx: I was driving my 72 mi, EV range BMW i3-REx for ~34,000 miles over 3 years. It was a fun ride with a "10 stop" range around town. Yes, I would shop where there was free EV charging but I actually like driving the little pocket rocket. But it has taken +600 mi trips with wife and dogs and worked perfectly fine. Stopping every 1.25 hours made my wife and her dogs happy. Our new, 25 mi, EV range Prius Prime became the 'driveway queen' with only 16,000 miles in the same 3 years. It was a "3 stop" range around town. Although affordable for long distance trips, we didn't do enough to justify this 4-seat (like the BMW i3-REx) car and I hated to drive it. It was needed due to BMW i3-REx servicing. I traded it in, $18.3k, for our Tesla Model 3. I used http://www.plugshare.com to examine trips to Coffeyville KS, Stillwater OK, and other family members. This revealed the SuperCharger network with a 240 mi EV range, Standard Range Plus Model 3 would meet our long distance requirements. In 100 days, we've put 10,000 miles on that car. BUT these were my requirements, not yours. Both our Model 3 and BMW i3-REx have liquid cooled, batteries and both have turned on their AC systems to manage battery temperature. In contrast, our Prius Prime, an air cooled like the Leaf, turned out to be less aggressive about managing battery temperatures. We had the same problem with air cooled, Prius traction batteries. Long battery life is an important requirement for us. Bob Wilson

a lot of entune complaints, even CarPlay. slow noisy uncomfortable? i haven't driven the gen3 yet, i hope not. the few owners here are very happy, but their expectations may be different.
