Attached is a video of the sound the A/C makes when running (ICE off). It doesn't bother me when I am driving, but for stealth camping purposes, I'd like to have this be much quieter. Is this a normal sound? Any suggestions on how to make it quieter?
sounds about right, try it a few feet away with the hood closed. i've never heard of anyone trying to make it quieter. also, try it on manual with fan speed at one bar
The exterior fan makes a pretty good howl, and the compressor is no slouch either. Your car sounds normal, nothing is broken. There's nothing stealthy about taking an air conditioner camping, sorry.

I have great earplugs and even a 12v white noise machine -- I sleep like a baby. Mostly, I'm trying to avoid good Samaritans calling the police, reporting: "There's a car parked but its engine is on and there doesn't seem to be anyone inside." Happened to me exactly once. Would prefer not to have a repeat. At this point, this is my best solution:
