Do you lock your cable when charging? My ‘20 Limited is set by default to lock the cable so no one can remove it when it’s plugged in. Wondering everyone’s thoughts on this from an EV charging etiquette perspective. I can turn it off, but I think I like that no one can try to unplug me before I’m charged. I got a nasty note today on my car in the garage I park in for work (first one! Do I get a gold star or stripe now?) because mine was locked while it was charging. I consider myself a very conscientious EV driver, and always go out in the middle of my workday to unplug and plug others in with their port doors open.
Since I only charge at home, I have never used the charging connector locking system on my PRIME. Does the lock work with public charger? I thought it only worked on TOYOTA OEM J1772 plug???
You can set it to Auto Unlock when it’s fully charged. I leave mine locked because it’s not hardwired into the parkade wall so I don’t need to deal with it being stolen at home. If I’m charging in public, I usually don’t charge for long. If I’m parked next to a spot where someone can siphon off a charge, then I’ll manually unlock it when I start the charge so that someone can take it if they need it (and I’ll leave a message on plugshare).
Buy a cheapy no-name Ebay GoPro clone, make sure it has a "motion recording" feature. Then covertly set it up near your Prime so it won't be noticed, that guy will DEFINITELY come back, find out who you're dealing with... Rob43
If you're using a public charger I would disable the lock or set it to auto unlock after charging is finished. If you're using a personal one, I'd enable it to prevent theft. The lock works on any charger, it physically prevents the latch from being disengaged.
Thanks. It’s a public charger. I will go through the menus tomorrow to figure out how to turn on the auto unlock when charged feature.
