I do not understand why the techstream is pulling the P0A0F the hybrid battery health is A ok. The vehicle starts everytime. My issue is the P1390 the throttle body was covered in oil intake full of oil plugs saturated with oil. I have cleaned and reset the dtc codes. Now the fun part after resetting the codes the car drives perfectly. After shutting down the car will show maintenance needed before rattling out shutting down and saying check hybrid system. Same DTC codes. The only other issue I've noticed is the exhaust smells of bad gas and other chemicals. Any insight would be appreciated. Does it need to be recalibrated? I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't pull the rear seat hook a line to the pump drain the tank and go from there. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
How many miles on the car? How is the oil level on the dipstick? Sounds like it may be overfilled. Check the catalytic converter? PCV Valve? Also lots of strange problems and error codes get solved by replacing the 12v battery. Is yours still the original? Just a few ideas to check............
No oil being burned on customers car it was overfilled of course had to drain it because of so much overflow. Classic oil change shop mistake. But everything has been cleaned mass replaced map replaced filter replaced intake and throttle body cleaned plugs replaced. All due to oil saturation Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
12 volt battery is brand new no problem there pcv will be checked tomorrow along with removing the fuel line and looking at a sample of fuel Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The underlying condition is that the car after clearing the dtc codes will drive perfectly after shutting off and restarting dtc codes return Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I found the problem. After all the repairs are made today I have a repair write up that is not on any chat forum or website for this repair hack. I will also post pictures and give a detailed write up and it can be moved to a different area if need be. This repair is also a fix because of dealership error because the car was not serviced at a oil change place. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Diagnostic problems where all solved after cleaning the mass air flow sensor, map sensor, throttle body, changing plugs, and cleaning oil from the intake. Now the best part this car went to a dealership to get the electric fans replaced because they was malfunctioning after replacing the fans they also changed and overfilled the oil. You would figure cleaning/maintenance for oil over fill would work but I still had codes. After disassembling again today I found that the vacumn nipple at the bottom of the intake was snapped off that leads to the vacumn switch allowing air into the intake and the vacuum switch not having the correct vacumn. Meaning dealership broke it and did not see it. Repairs for intake below Sanded the area where the nipple was to rough it up. Got a 3/8 threaded hose fitting and used sand paper to remove some of the flange so that the old broken nipple would fit over it snugly Drilled out the hole where the nipple was with a step drill to fit the 3/8 pipe tap and tapped the hole Mixed JB weld epoxy and applied to the thread and used a 10mm socket to seat it snugly After that I slid the broken pvc piece across the new fitting and applied JB weld to seal it so that the old hose would fit it properly. Reinstalled all components problem solved no more codes and drives like new without purchasing a new intake. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just another reason to do it yourself! That's crazy! You should take the photos, and video if you also did video, back to them and get your money back. At the very least.
Sharnold - thanks much for posting! My 2013 /153k has semi-similar problems and I went a slightly different route first (replace fuel pump). But I was a stubborn bonehead and depleted the HV battery so much it won't start until I get it charged up (had to order a Prolong). So I might be done after the recharge, or, I might have to go through all the cleaning/replacing that you describe ... BUT AT LEAST NOW I KNOW TO CHECK THAT HOSE/NIPPLE YOU DESCRIBE TO SEE IF IT IS INTACT - THANKS TO YOUR DETAILED WRITE-UP!
I'm not the owner just a mechanic. The oil was overfilled by at least a quart because I had to drain a good bit it was over a 1/4 inch above the high mark. They didn't want to take it back to the dealership because of how much they charged the first time to replace the fans and do the oil change. I went to there location not my garage to do the work so they wouldn't have to have it towed Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Some people may be physically disabled so that could be why they can't DIY. Also if they live an apartment, their lease said no to working on cars and there are other legitimate reasons
I know I know I know................... Some people CAN'T do it themselves........ Some people DON'T have a place to do the work.........
I always remove the back seat remove the fuel line from the pump and put a piece of 4ft 1/2 hose on the pump put it in a jug and and see if the pump is actually pumping before replacing it. Also if the oil is ever over filled or you have a faulty pcv valve stuck open oil will foul the throttle body and the maf and map sensor and give improper readings. Lol I was estimating I drained a good bit. The worst issues I've seen is a DIY oil change jacking up one side of the car draining the oil thinking its actually drained but bc the cars tilted and still has more. Then they still add the required oil it calls for overfilling it because theres still some in the pan....... it equals a overfilling disaster Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
That's what I do when I change the oil, except, I lower it back down. It's easier to raise the Rfront wheel and change the filter, then drain the oil. I put 3 quarts in and then check it, after lowering the right side that is!
