I recently bought a second hand Prius C 2015 and it’s miles are low about 40k. I faced a problem two weeks into driving it. The check hybrid battery light came one and so did the other warnings, I used a OBD and it told me to replace hybrid battery? Why do I need to replace the battery already when it’s fairly new. Could it be something else? Tried solutions: • I have cleaned the fan from dust and debris. • I have plugged and unplugged the battery. Concerns: While driving once the car started convulsing and wouldn’t move and made loud noises. What to do?
welcome! is it under warranty? get tech stream for proper code reading. it will tell you the cell voltages under load, and detail sub codes to define the problem, along with the online service manual
Call up or stop by the Toyota Dealership. If there is a major problem with the battery they can replace it under warranty. Hope all is well!
He's in Guam... Not sure if the warranty we get here applies there. (It's 8 years / 100k miles here) That being said, in answer to your question, 5 years seems to be an average age for a Prius C's battery. It's smaller than a regular Prius' Battery and maybe that's why. 40k miles is low, but who knows. Heat/age combined could have played a factor.
I just got the same message at 80k miles on a 2015 Prius C. Took it to a dealer and got a new hybrid battery installed for free. I’d look into if your car is under warranty from Toyota if I were you.
Guam has a Toyota dealer. If it were me I would make an appointment. It's a small island. you can't be more than 15-20 miles from the dealership.
