I bought a 3rd gen and was offered 3 months of XM radio subscription. My question is once that ends will I need to keep it to receive traffic data and navigation? Or does the car have that information standard? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
No, I don't think so. This is on my PRIME, but I have had no XM radio subscription after initial complementary 3 month subscription expired. My Nav still works fine and update the traffic data just like it did when I had the subscription.
My 2015 3rd Gen Prius Four has the navigation system, which still works after I canceled my special-offer XM subscription. I've never seen traffic information, but that maybe that goes along with the Entune app on my phone, if I chose to enable it -- same for gas-station location and price info, I think. Note that there are no automatic map updates: you have to go to a dealer for the associated "wallet flush" for updates.
If you have the Deluxe Solar Roof package with your 2012 Four, then you have the 7" HDD navigation with XMNavTraffic. If so, then yes you need to keep the subscription (although the last time I tried in 2015, XM said they no longer supported the Prius but you can call and check and explicitly mention XMNavTraffic. It's possible it was only a Canadian thing). If you have the 6.1" Display Audio (base 2012 Four), then traffic is done through HD Traffic and not XM.
