Hi everybody, Recenty I´ve got an error. message "Check Hybrid System", I read the error with the scanner and I get the error number P0A80 and this code means that I have to replace cells in the HV battery, after that I did a test of each cell of the HV battery, I found all cells are over 8V except 2 cells are 7,75V. My question is, should those 2 cells cause this probleme ? I think the 7,75v is normal beacuse I when I look in ebay or amazon to buy new cells I found people sell cells under 7,5v . What do you think ? I forgot to tell you that I could clear the error message by disconnecting the 12v battery , and after a certain miles, the error appairs again
The two modules you found with lower voltage might be the problem, or might not, depending on the conditions under which you measured the voltage. If measured under no load, it doesn't tell you much. (Each module is made of six cells. One NiMH cell always has a nominal voltage of 1.2 volts—you can't change chemistry—and you don't have access to measure the cells individually, only the modules.) It is unsurprising that the codes are cleared by disconnecting the power, and unsurprising that they come back as long as the condition hasn't been fixed. There are procedures in the repair manual (more info) for testing under load and getting a better sense of where the problem might lie, and a lot of related threads here in the forum. What did you use to read the code? Do you have Techstream?
I dont know realy which scanner because a friend of mine did this measure, I did a research in the forum but I didnt found a thread that talk about this probleme, I will appreciate if you can help this is the application he used.
the dealer can do this test ? they can replace blocks or they will ask to replace the entire HV battery?
i can't say for morocco, but it is difficult to find a dealer who will do it here, they're just not trained in it. in the u/k, i believe the dealers have a program, where if you will pay for the test every year, they will extend the battery warranty
Toyota does not sell individual modules, just a replacement battery pack. Putting in used individual modules many times does not resolve the issue for long. It is usually best to get a new pack from Toyota or perhaps have your friend use the kit of new cells sold by @2k1Toaster here. The link is in my signature but you would have to ask about the shipping cost to Morocco. I know he has sold packs outside of the US. The pack basically gives you a new battery, usually for less than the cost of a Toyota one. You can then sell your not yet filed modules to recoup some of the cost.
I read somewhere about balancing the battery blocks, because I have just 2 blocks with 7,88v and I think isnt a bad value to change it, do you have an idea ?
i can only advise you that the best method i've read about is to load test the modules, replace the bad ones with similar to the ones next to them, and balance the whole pack. it is a very tedious procedure. you can find threads here detailing the job. some have just replaced the modules and slapped the pack back in, with varying amounts of success. one important thing is to clean all the corrosion inside the pack, and check all the connectors as well.
