So I bought a 2005 Prius with a bazillion miles on it. The odo was replaced at 300k, it now shows 122k MILES, yes miles. But the thing runs great, looks good, and the interior is not too beat up. The plan is to get my 2500 bucks out of it through commuting 40 miles each day. I don't know the mpg yet, the MFD says 42, but I topped off the tank and calculated 57mpg if the trip odo was reset at the last fill up. The only big issue is the right side dash is not lighting up. The speedo/odo was replaced a while ago. I'll be checking fuses, hopefully its an easy fix. This is my first Toyota in a LONG time, my last one was a 1971 Toyota Corona, that I got with 99k miles on the clock. Proceeded to flog it for 65k miles, and then sold it for what I paid for it.
Wow! That a lot of miles. Welcome. There's a ton of good info here and a bunch of really helpful people. Hope it's just a fuse on the dash light issue. Gen 2 does have a problem with a capacitor in the combo meter blowing out, but that makes the whole instrument panel go dark plus making it hard to shut off the car. On the MPG, that's going to take several tanks to figure out. The Gen 2 has a bladder inside for emissions control. It varies in flexibility so that when you fill it up, "full" is different every time. Generally speaking, the tank holds more gas in warm weather than in cold. It's a tank of a car, but that bladder is not its most endearing feature.
