So typically, my wife drive the Prius. A few weeks ago, she asked me to go fill it up, so I decided to use it for a tank and let her drive my Longhorn. Well I noticed this really odd noise coming from the fuel filler cap area. I’ve seen mentions of the cap perhaps not sealing properly or such, however wouldn’t that cause a engine light to come on??? 2010 Prius.
Yeah, absolutely no engine light so far. I wanted to upload a clip, but can’t I guess. If it were the charcoal cannister, is that a replacement part or can it be cleaned? iPhone ?
3rd and 4th gen Prii have a sealed tank, eliminating the need for the rubber bladder that plagued 2nd gen models in North America. The gas cap should seal and I have never heard any noise from any of my or my wife's Prii. If the charcoal canister was plugged, you would have problems filling the tank and I would think you'd also get a code.
Well, the last fill-up was actually annoying, I couldn’t keep the fuel nozzle on at max, because it would click as if the tank was full. This might be an indication that the canister is almost full. Can the canister be maintained or replaced easily? iPhone ?
Just asked my wife and she keeps going. I’ve read that it’s bad idea, especially for the Prius :-/ iPhone ?
Yep, that's not good. It does sound like it's the charcoal canister. We had to have one replace years ago on a Camry for the same symptoms. I think I'd want to get confirmation with an experienced mechanic before spending money on something I'd read on the internet, because there are other things that might cause this. There are various vents and tubes involved, I think. I am fairly comfortable working on most stuff, but I when I looked at the canister replacement, I decided it didn't look like fun. Others probably feel differently.
