I am 2 weeks in with the Prime and it finally rained last night. I connected the charging cable but was a little concerned if it was OK to leave the cable connected in the rain. Rain was very light and everything works this morning so I guess it went OK but I wanted to check anyway if it's a yay or nay. The plug itself isn't pointing upwards so potentially water can get in. On that note, I don't know why they didn't make the charging door swing upward so it can act like a cover for the charging port. I mean I understand it's not an issue if the car is parked inside, but mine is outside.
no prolemo lots of complaints about the charging door, but you can charge in a hurricane/snowstorm/whatever
Rain or snow, yes... but hurricane, maybe not. And during a thunderstorm with lightning, I keep my car unplugged just in case.
I have a Pip (first gen. Prime). I plug it in in during anything, it doesn't care. There are seals in there. Mine are eight years old and still work fine.
My guess for cons on a flip up door is it blocks line of sight for plug in connection, also any overhead lighting at night would also get blocked when plugging in. I could imagine the complaints about a flip up door. Plus I don't think any one has had an issue with inclement weather.
