Thought about posting this under the humans regressing thread, but it really is not an example of regression. So, I go to Lowes yesterday and knowing I need exercise, knowing I am going to load things in the back and I need room, I park in what is the most remote corner of the lot. No cars anywhere near me and it is about 15 minutes after 8 a.m. PST. NO vehicles remotely near where I park. I also "pulled through" the space -- meaning I did not need to back up to exit, I could just start and go forward. I come back in about 20-25 minutes and -- yep -- one SUV parked along my passenger side -- one parked behind me, leaving me no room to load what I need to load in the back and another car not in the space right next to my driver side, but in the next slot over. I very much doubt they were employees and parking in the employee "spots," but I guess anything is possible. A couple of weeks ago, I was at a local grocery. I parked in pretty much the same manner -- but before I could even get out of my car, some "gentleman" roars in next to me, but continues past me into the space just behind me to the left. But, then he thinks better of it, and backs up so he is right next to my driver's side. His Ford F350, left little space between the two rigs and, of course, I could not see traffic coming from my left. So, I am still in the car and I curse, start the car and begin to pull forward -- very slowly -- and am very nearly hit by a woman driving out of the parking lot. I can give lots of examples -- like when I arrived at a U.S. Forest Service campground early in the season. Campground is empty and has some 45 spots, but I pick one that is not prime, but figure if someone else drives in they will not settle in next to me -- of course, a couple of hours later -- someone drives in....drives all around the site and then settles in right next to me. GRRR. I am not "anti-social," but I do NOT feel the need to follow the crowd. Guess I am in the minority. And guess there is some "long ago" caveman reason for it....safety in the herd, I suppose....but, I have no interest in "mooing along" with the pack.
We're in the same.....herd on that one. No matter where I park in the parking lot, some low-octane type is going to snuggle riiiight up next to me. I like to leave my vehicle in the clear, and under a light even thought I live in a very low crime area. I can park in the BFE section of a completely empty parking lot at 0230....and there will be a car (or two...) parked RIGHT next to me, 30 seconds later. C'est la vie......
Wasn't parked far from the door of a fast food place, but wasn't anyone else in the line of nearly a dozen spots. In the time we were eating, someone pulled into the spot right next to me, put a ding in the drivers' door, and left. All the spots that were empty when we went in still were.
My father used to rant about the herd. Mostly about fishing, hiking and hunting spots. Several years ago, I was moving back to Oregon from Iowa and my husband and I were driving along I-80 in Wyoming. It is the Wild West, with wide open spaces, a flat straight highway and the speed limit is 80 mph. There was no one around us. We were traveling alone, when, way, way back, my husband comments that he can barely see another car coming along. After it bit it is pretty close, which means it was traveling faster than 65-73 mph my wimpy husband was going. But, instead of blowing past us, the driver tucks in behind us, about a car length or so. In addition to following too close, it was just irritating. So, husband slows to 65. Then 60 and then 55 mph, but the car behind keeps pace. So, despite my "gentle disapproval " husband kicks it up to 80 mph. Still no change. Finally, came across one of those roadside rest areas. We did not signal and swerved into the exit lane at the last possible second, losing our friend (I had to go pee anyway). kris
I have had success with a "reverse pass": move to the left lane, let them pull ahead in the right, them move back once they are a safe distance ahead. I can't remember any such tailgater declining to pull ahead.
Just get a magnetic sign for the side of your vehicle that say's: " Bio-Hazard Transport Services ". I suspect fewer people will park next to you.
My wife has a favorite parking spot in the normally empty far corner of a certain parking lot, and if someone else unwittingly parks in that spot or next to it, she will park right next to them. Also illogical, but another possible explanation for some cases. I am also a lone wolf parker. When someone parks right next to me in an otherwise empty corner of the lot, I either get paranoid if it's a shitty car and I think they may have parked there to give them cover while they break in to my car, or it reassures me if it's a nice car and I think that it's another person who worries about door dings and is just as careful as I am to not ding others.
You are in Germany and do not have to deal with the continually outraged people here in the United States.
I experienced a few of those yesterday, trying to get the grand kids to school and more-or-less obey the speed limits. Seems like everyone is a half-hour late for work and got out of the wrong side of bed.
there used to be a bathroom and etiquette “test” providing various situations in bathroom stall and urinal layouts and choosing the correct location. most males answer “correctly” and it was funny.
... which is why the facility designs need improvement. Many very good design examples exist, especially outside the U.S.
many female urinal designs exist but I’m not sure they want that form of equity or equality. Might be as bad as a squat toilet, although the room usually rinses the floor after each person , so there is that.
