So I bought a 2008 Prius and it's been my pet project for the last month. The car had cosmetic issues and still has scratches on the doors I need to correct. 250k on the clock, new HV battery. I paid 1900 for it along with 130 for a new fender and 120 for tires. Along with some misc supplies. Zero rust, looks to have been taken care of by it's previous owner.
Looks like a good deal to me. Now that the battery is sorted, the next major things are the brake actuator and just keep an eye on the oil level. Good luck with your new to you Prius.
For the brake actuator, you'll hear it more. There will also be dash lights telling you about the issue.
Nice looking Prius you got there... Once you cover up the Patriots logo, it'll probably be good to go for a long time, unlike the Patriots.... Go Eagles!
Welcome to PriusChat! Looks like a keeper! PriusChat is the perfect place to learn all you'll ever need to know about the amazing Prius! Find out all you can about Prolong Grid Charging (Hybrid Automotive). Nice colour! Looks like a great car! Congratulations!
Not sure if you noticed it yet, it is kinda like a long low electrical moan. Some say barking etc. If you are sitting in P hit the brake and should hear it cycle. Not sure the norms for gen2 but gen3 is maybe 2-5 seconds Somewhat hard to hear if you are actually driving and such. Gen3 will also cycle when you first open the drivers door. Congrats on that heck of a deal with new HV batt!
When i open the door or before I start the car I'll hear like a clicking noise but other than that nothing at all when breaking
Yeah you would need a trained ear for it. Very hard to distinguish the sound. Maybe it is just quiet.
Like Ray says the brake actuator is the abs pump. Brakes need vacuum to work vacuum comes from the engine and engine not always on unlike a regular car so actuator creates vacuum when engine not on. Abs failure is that pump leaks and constantly cycles. If you open the door or with engine off just push the brake a few times that pump will cycle. Sounds like a rattle snake. You will hear that come on now and then quite often. Only runs for about 2 seconds. A failed abs actuator will cycle constantly even when not pushing the brake pedal.and the brakes will be affected. Also Most high mileage g2 engines use oil. You need to find out how much. In the morning before starting the car check engine oil every few days till your u see how much loss there is. Keep oil at the full line.
Banksy stop quoting posts and then adding onto them. Just start a new post and reply to previous post like you did in #12 post its easier to understand.
Sounds normal. Dont worry too much, it would be running long time, or constant or throw code if shot. @Raytheeagle was just pointing out some known problems with your year. Also, dont forget that he mentioned to keep an eye on the oil on the dipstick
Having owned three Saturn SL2s I know all to well the pains and importance of checking oil consumption. I had a SL2 once that burnt a qt every 400 miles. Was a nightmare.
