I have a 2010 Gen 3 base model no NAV and no JBL. Planning to upgrade to Apple Carplay and found this on Crutchfield and is one of the least expensive well known brand offers Carplay. They selling with the dash kit Scosche TA2105B Dash Kit, steering wheel control unit iDatalink Maestro ADS-MSW and wiring harness (One from new unit and one from the car. Here is my questions. Is there any other wiring or modification I have to do other than those they provided? I read from other thread saying about need to connect to ODBII for installing after market Audio. Is that true? Regarding the steering wheel control unit, it is $50 but the what else I will able to control other than volume to the Apple carplay since i have the base model?
I installed its cousin, the AX-100 in our Prius c. From the steering wheel we can control volume, track skip forward and back, and change audio source between usb/am/fm etc. I had to do some extra wiring work to retain use of our car’s built in rear vision camera, and I chose to do some extra work to integrate the Sony handsfree microphone into the car. I mounted it in the factory handsfree mic location overhead. I never had to do anything with OBDII.
Did you buy the optional steering wheel control unit, or did it work as is for the steering wheel controls?
Did you pull the trigger on this unit? If so, how did it go? I'm thinking about the same unit. Did you have to buy the extra kit to use your steering wheel controls?
I used the Axxess ASWC module. It's a universal converter but it came out of the box preset properly and included an appropriate harness for the car. All I had to do was physically mount it and connect it, no configuration or programming. It just worked.
