I have a 2011 prius that will not change into park or drive with the p lock malfunction bit will say check hybrid system for a short second before hand. I changed the battery and it did not help. I checked the fuses none broken however I noticed the high beam fuses and dome light fuses do not seem to get electricity at the fuse but the high beams work. I am a bit fearful of mice being the culprit. I am helping my parents in Illinois for the past few weeks and after cleaning out my car I found a large mouse bed in it. Going to wait a day before I get it towed to toyota dealership. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
I read this could be a shifting sensor. I do not know how to get to it and imagine that is best done by a mechanic. Also the rear hatch will not open unless I manually open it.
Now all door locks work. No check hybrid system But still p lock malfunction. Oddly when checking fuses around 35 the fan turns but fuse says good with voltmeter when in place but when you take it out fan runs on engine.
Sounds like I need scan tool for that. Cost me $150 to tow to toyota with this tool. Would it be worth it to buy one? If so which one?
A used shifter could be has for about $40 delivered off of eBay; $600* at the dealer. It is a simple bolt on and plug in install.
... which is a $40 solution to the problem, if that's what the problem is, and a $40 increase in the cost of the still-unidentified problem, if it isn't.
I am going to see if a local mechanic has the scanning tools tomorrow morning hopefully for around 50 they will do a quick drive by. If it is over 75 for them to come out would a mini-vci obd2 cable and tech stream software for around $40 work? Otherwise I am unsure to tow to local shop or toyota dealership to diagnose and fix this situation.
