I have a 2015 Prius with only 66k miles. I was due for the 60k maintenance but given I am jobless I opted to take it to a local mechanic to do the tier 1 upgrade (change oil, filters, check certain things is all he did). I do not drive the car that often. He was slightly cheaper than Toyota, came highly recommended by the locals and was five minutes from my house whereas Toyota is closer to an hour.

I was driving yesterday and as I was accelerating at a light, the car jerked and the Check Hybrid Status. Stop the Vehicle warning came on. I ended it getting towed to my home because everything was closed because of Memorial Day, The error light came on 42 miles after the car left the mechanic (I checked the next oil change sticker against the odometer).

I have posted in a Prius group on Facebook and I have received a mix. Some people tell me I could have voided the warranty by letting another mechanic service it. A few people said that is not true. Anybody know if simply getting an oil and filter changes voids the warranty? Seems ridiculous.

Next, a few people suggested the mechanic who did the work didn't properly disconnect the electrical system when he performed maintenance. This would cause the dash to spawn this fake warning meaning there isn't anything wrong with the car. I am a 52 year old woman with no mechanical savvy so I didn't feel comfortable doing what they suggested which was disconnecting the white plug from the fuse box for.a minute which would reset the computer. My neighbor offered to help, we did what they suggested and that didn't get rid of the warning message.

I am wondering what could be. At only 66k miles I thought I would at least have the major things covered should it be something serious and expensive but people are telling me my warranty could be void. Any advice is appreciated. I didn't sleep last night. This has been so upsetting.

Update. the mechanic came and ran a diagnostics and got the following code so there is a problem with the hybrid system: P0A94, POA7A, POA1A.

does anybody know if this is covered by warranty? I called Toyota and they said they think it is but they need to look at it first. I am having it towed to Toyota now....

you did not void the warranty

the first one can be confirmed at toyota.com/owners. idk if 2015 is covered.

the second and third are related.

all i can find is 2010-2014 warranty enhancement

I would think it is under warranty because my car only has 66k miles on it and the inverter is a central part of the hybrid system. I am waiting for AAA to tow my car to Toyota. They said they need "inspect" it before confirming that it is covered by warranty.....

Could be your inverter is fried, which is the P0A94 code;).

Put your VIN into the Toyota owners website and do some research:).

You may have the cause there with the codes and a gratis repair from Toyota(y).

I did this. There are no recalls for my VIN. But my car only has 66k miles on it. Isn't it under warranty based on mileage??
