Do the Lexus RX hybrids work the same as other Toyota hybrids where you can run the air conditioning continuously with the vehicle parked in READY mode without the system shutting itself down?
I haven't tried this in our 2017, but there's only one way to find out. Have you checked in the manual to see if it says anything about turning off after long periods of idling in ready? I know in the Prime manual it does discuss this, so that tells me for the Prime it is a thing.
Any reason for looking at a new RX450h for this purpose? You'll be spending a lot of $$$$$$ on a luxury ride to use it for a utilitarian purpose. Some things I've learned about the RX: The paint is thin, so if you take it off of paved surfaces and into areas where branches and limbs reside, your paint will get damaged The rims are huge (ours has the 20 inch variety) and they are also very susceptible to curb rash if you are not careful (within 5k miles the wife had met a curb and we now get to see it everyday) Ground clearance isn't particularly high There are plenty of sensors and a lot of damage can result if something strikes the front of it: The damage above was covered by insurance but led to over a month of downtime and $7k in repairs I guess another question I have is why the RX for the mobile office and camping purpose and not something else?
It depends on the office to camping ratio. If more camping, I'd look for something else. If piling on the miles as a traveling type office job, I'd also look elsewhere as depreciation will be high. In the 3 years we have owned the RX, we've put 33k miles on it. The wife will be working from home for the foreseeable future, so the miles will stay low. All factors in the equation, but I'd look for something else other than an RX for the thread title.

If we hit road debris, why isn't it for us to pay the deductible? If we couldn't find the truck that left the duct work in the middle of the lane, then it is our responsibility to repair our vehicle. You are causing topic drift and to bring it back to what the OP is asking, if you have an RX and can add to the conversation, please do. Otherwise there are other threads where you can add your expertise.
Ray, what I am trying to say is that there are cheaper options and you would get the same coverage. Think about it if your driving records are clean and not much ticket history, then you should be paying a lot less in deductible. Im done now though. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
If for a job, it might be possible to write the depreciation off in taxes. Even with just the flat mileage rate for 2020, 15,000 miles will be a $8625 deduction vs $1600 worth of fuel at $3.20 a gallon. A Highlanderh would be cheaper, and use less fuel, but pulling up in a plain old Toyota can be a negative for some professions. We are also assuming the OP is paying MSRP for either of them.
