Yesterday was a hot day here in SoCal and I was driving on a straight and level, dry road when my slip indicator came on twice and moments later the BRAKE, Traction, ABS and Slip Indicator lights all came on. I pulled over and shut it down and restarted, but the lights stayed on. Disconnected the 12v for a couple of hours, and still no change. Now the brake pedal is soft and travels farther before engaging, but it does stop the car. The ABS doesn't work at all and on hard braking it locks up the rear wheels. I can hear the brake actuator pump run and cut out after a couple of seconds if the car has been sitting for a while, so I'm guessing the pump and accumulator must be OK, but I'm not sure. I already checked the 12v system and all the ABS related fuses - all are fine. The dealer wants $175 to read the codes (not if I can help it!). If I get the 2-day subscription to TIS Professional, can I download Techstream to read the codes and hopefully figure out what's going on? Where can I buy the correct cable?
If you do a search here on terms like "DrewTech" "Mini VCI" "Tactrix" "VxDiag" you should get a pretty good idea of the different J2534 adapters (that's the kind Techstream needs) people might be using. You can also search on reading the dash-light blink codes, which is a way of getting some information while you're waiting for a J2534 cable to arrive, and doesn't cost anything.
Thanks. Some of the threads make it sound like the installation could be dicey. Do you suppose something like this would work on a Win 10 laptop?
