Prolong Charge - Full Monty

Yes this is just a byproduct of the power supplies we use inside the charger. No correlation to battery at all. Once you get over 202V (on a Prius charger), amperage will stabilize for the rest of charging process.

 

Wow, so someone chime in with this top voltage of 250v on this thread. I reconditioned mine recently and the first top off it settled in at 244. After that the next 3 never went beyond 242v even after 36 hours!

 

There are a lot of factors at play.

Environmental conditions are one of them. And don't forget that all of this voltage is across 168 individual cells, so a couple of volts isn't much per cell.

I never saw more than 242 or 243 in all my reconditioning cycles.

Wao! That adds up to the price of the process, this is why I have a van that I hardly use, because couple times rentals pay the whole year insurance in comparison, and I have a second vehicle the 365 days of the year, not only 7 days o for me 14 days at 50 pay my 12 month full cover on my backup car.

This is how my story started, I bought a second Prius thinking in replacing the older one but didn't happen to much love in my old Prius lol, well having a newer Prius put the older one almost without much use and not use it's not good we all know, so of course, the car hybrid pack got low and started to give me warning of deterioration real low SOC mainly in the morning, I went ahead and order the HA charger and very impress with the results I have a good balance battery that holds better but not enough I still see every morning that my hybrid pack it's really showing it needs help, I been reading and reading and reading trying to understand what should be my best move and came to the conclusion I need a new hybrid pack and posted my HA charger for sale but I didn't stop reading at every post that has a comment about battery reconditioning and after convincing my self about the reconditioning with the HA charger and automatic discharger was a good idea and not too much to loose bacause it can always be sell if don't work out for me i took the plunge and order the discharger to complete my kit, I received 7/23/2020 and inmeditly started to do the charge and balance and this is how it went:

It charged up to to 235 volts by about 8:30am and didn't move any more until I disconnected at 3:26pm provably because of the temperature, after finishing I decided to not continue with the reconditioning for various reasons first I want to drive my car to see if is on the need of more because the battery has a finite life and don't want to do unnecessary cycles to it and anyway Jeff at HA commented in a post that the first cycle give 80% of the benefit then the second 10% and the third 5% for me 10% more don't worth my time and the reduced life cycle of my hybrid battery pack if not absolutely necessary, so when ahead after one hour and took the car for a test and impressed my car hybrid battery pack don't fluctuate as before now it really got stronger, the normal trip I always do to Walmart that I always get to green bars didn't happen now and a solid rock 4-6 bars even with my ac on the lower setting only while waiting on the parking lot with the ac on the SOC will get down to 2 or 3 bars, lastly the reason what got me into this the morning start of the car every morning going to 2 even 1 purple bar if not warm up the car before start to drive, now after the only one reconditioning I started the car and just drove it and impressed again just when to 3 bars from 4, before the reconditioning I was going from 6 bars to one without warming up the car and about from 6 to 3 with car warm up, this comfirm me I don't need to stress my self of the battery for more reconditioning cycles it is enough, now one of the test I did about my battery before the reconditioning was one another member here sugested, I did this test one day after the reconditioning, charge the hybrid pack to 7 bars and with everything off car on drive with the emergency brake (not foot on brake) wait for bar 6 and start the timer to bar 5, he explained that befofe his battery fail he got 2 minutes but after his new battery (don't know if new or refurbished) he have 13 minutes 10 seconds, so I did the same test before and after reconditioning and this is my results: before reconditioning 6-5 bar 8 minutes 27 seconds and after reconditioning 13 minutes 16 seconds, this is very impressed, looking very good and very happy with this results, I will come back with more updates this is it for now, hope be helpfull.

 

Another update did a full reconditioning out the car to keep the battery inside my AC and also to have a better knowledge of what is happening as it happens, and after finishing now couple days later checking voltage on modules (battery still outside the car) and the first and last module voltage is sagging way to much, all modules are between 7.92 - 7.95 but module 1 is 7.61 and module 28 is 7.11 (easy way to spot the weak modules if time is not a issue) this reading is couple days after battery was balance with the prolong charger, so I was thinking on getting a new kit from 2k1 but since he is out stock I decided to play (wack a mole) with my prolong deluxe kit and ordered 2 modules from 2ndlifebattery and I have my battery open waiting on the replacement modules so let’s see how it work for me, anyway this is my spare car so not to much worries.

 

After the first discharge I was using a 24-30 hour charge. I initially was using a 10-12 hour charge. Not near long enough.
They told me not long enough so then went to the longer charge big improvement.

Worked really well for months after that. Then I would do another same charge 5 months later.
2 years later did a another discharge to 80 volts .And started the 5 month routine again till its third year.

Then one day it went to no bars at a light and I said what woe time for a new battery. Never saw that before.

The day I installed the NPB's it was still running good just had started the no bars thing so knew it was time.

Never threw a RTOD.

Your welcome really good info I got from guys on here. I really dont know shit about it as far as hands on compared to all the long time battery guys on Here there’s a lot of them.

I was only charging like 10-12 hours. They straightened me out.

At 337 mah it takes a long long time to get a discharged pack filled up enough to then go into balance phase.

Just a quick update, I successfully play the wack a mole game or band aid fix whatever you want to call it combined together with the prolong deluxe reconditioning system and got not regret my issue was mainly morning recalibration that ended with a RTOD after using the prolong discharger so I replaced the modules that didn’t survived the reconditioning and happy battery pack again, the modules that didn’t survive was two with bad charging and discharging behavior so do you self a favor and do not use the discharger if you have charging discharging misbehaving with you pack or morning recalibration because my battery pack survive the charger but it didn’t survive the discharger because two modules was charging more and discharging more than the rest.
