I guess that will get more clicks, but just like messing with the phone when you're driving? It's the behavior, not the electronic feature that caused this poor slob to get in trouble.
I don't agree with the court on this. However, I also agree that the Tesla design isn't very good. The only thing you can do from the steering wheel stalk is to tap to wipe or tap harder to wash and wipe. The automatic controls don't always get the right speed (sometimes too slow, sometimes too fast) So changing speed is sometimes required...and the font size and button size are way too small IMO. When you tap the stalk button it should bring up a much larger version of the wiper controls to allow you to change the speed. Or there should be a way to use the scroll wheels to adjust the speed and/or sensitivity after tapping the stalk button. (I sent similar suggestions to Tesla soon after the first rains I encountered in my Model 3 1.5 years ago or so) Mike
Two things can be true at the same time. It's JUST possible that poking around on a 15-inch tablet while driving can be distracting. It's also JUST possible that Teslas have enough safety features to be "statistically" safer.....or.....even "real-world" safer when being "driven" by a distracted driver. Time will tell. However (comma!!) in the very unlikely event that I get hit by a distracted Tesla driver you'd better Hong Kong freekin believe that I'm calling a lawyer and buying a neck brace....
shouldn't be too hard for tesla to come up with some kind of work around, but they probably won't do anything because it's not illegal to leave it as it is. i've read complaints before about some of the functions that shouldn't be screen only, but perhaps they are blown out of proportion. what about audible commands?
I live in hope that someone will offer tactile, physical, unambiguous, 100% eyes on the road controls, for cabin ventilation and rudimentary radio.
