I can't seem to find anything about it in the owner's manual or online, but it appears you can't fast charge your phone in the car? Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Depends on the phone. My old one struggled with the wireless charging. The new one works well with it.
I wonder if the new iPhone 12 Pro Max will fit. I’m betting it does. Waiting for the chorus of users wanting Toyota to have Mag-Safe charging since it’s downward compatible.
I can't even use the qi charger. My phone starts to charge then stops and light blinks 3 times. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I thought the Prius Prime charge cradle could charge all phones that support wireless charging. Is that not correct ?
In my experience, what the wireless charger in the Prime does best is heat up the phone, with a token bit of charging thrown in.
I'm pretty sure I tried without the case, but I'm going to try again just in case. It's certainly not a thick case. It starts to charge then stops like 30 seconds later. I read I may have to turn off the wireless fast charging on my phone too. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
And yet another modern electronics compatibility issue. Not surprising really. The ONLY way to get reliable "fast" charging is to use a charger module that comes with the portable device and plug it into the 12 V accessory socket (cigarette lighter). The USB sockets, for instance, are really I/O ports and only trickle charge. Then there is the tendency for Apple to purposely make their stuff just enough different so you can use only their accessories.
Use at least 18W USB-C PD 12v adaptor. Mine is 63W PD. Charge my Pixel XL from near 0% to full charge in less than 30min.
That is impressive. Which outlet do you plug into? And do you like the pixel? Samsung has annoyed me enough I'm willing to try a new brand. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I turned off my fast charging and took case off and my phone did charge some. It did also get really hot and I think stopped. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
They all plug-into the 12v outlet. There is only one front 12v outlet in 2020 and newer PP, since the back seats now has two additional very weak USB outlets. For 2019 and earlier there were two 12v outlets, one in front inside console and one for rear seat. The wireless Qi charger in my previous 2017 PP was totally useless. As for the choice of phone. I have used only Nexus lines and Pixel for my Android phones, all but except the very first Nexus 4 were used unlocked unit bought much less than original price. I have never spent more than $200 on a phone. The good thing about Google OEM phones are that it gets the OTA update quickest and plenty of custom ROMs are available. It is the standard model all the Android OS is built for, so any compatibility issues are most easily resolved.
