Twelve volts won't bite you, gloves or no gloves. (If you apply it directly to your tongue, you'll taste stuff ... different stuff, depending on where you apply it. But tongues really only do sweet/salty/sour/bitter, all the other details come from noses, so the fun wears off pretty quickly. Heard from a friend.) The gloves are more for that 200+ volt traction battery and the distinctive orange wiring connected to it. You shouldn't need to be messing with that. The serious concern working around the 12 volt system is to avoid bridging it with your metal tools (or jewelry). That could lead to burns from something you're holding or wearing. Sometimes people will wrap sockets or other tools in electrical tape to make that less likely. In a Gen 2, you have two simple plug-in connections back at the positive battery post, a fat one and a skinny one. You just squeeze the latch on each one and pull it out. No tools, no drama, you're all disconnected and can just go to work on the fusebox or wherever.
