I wanted to ask you guys should I buy a use egr or a new one? I found a new one for $217.67 shipped to my door. Let me know what you think. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Buy used. save your pennies for other Prius related items down the road . If you can clean the used equipment, it'll be as good as new .
@peter, yea that was my plan. @Ray, I did not want to spend the down time cleaning a used one, then having to clean the other one. I was thinking slap the new one in and take my time cleaning the old one, also how much would a used one be and how good can it be cleaned without really being able to see the insides? Life is about time and money . Cleaning is not difficult at all, and is well documented in here how. But spend your money how you see fit .
Nothing wears in the cooler. Search junk yards, I found one for $55, with shipping! It was easy to clean and sure shortened the time the last time I cleaned the egr circuit! Last I searched on ebay they were around $90-100. Over half the price of a new one. Now if I could find a good used intake manifold for a good price, it would really reduce the time!
@ASRDogman Yea no yard have a prius near me right now. I did find a refurb clean one for $147 shipped. Some pulled unclean ones in the $120 area Will definately think about a used one thats clean already but would most def pull one from a yard if there was a prius to get to. Made a deal with an ebayer that was not far from me and picked it up at his house. Will be cleaning out the intake manifold and installing this EGR. Installing Pulstar iridium spark plugs. Installing a new air/fuel upstream sensor. Then will clean out my original EGR and will offer to swap out my clean one for anyones dirty one for a fee. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Are you talking about the EGR cooler? If so it’s not very difficult to clean. Idk how other people feel about this, but a whole bunch of acetone (throttle body cleaner) and an unraveled wire clothes hanger does the trick. They fit perfectly. You just insert it in one end and push like hell till it comes out the other. It pushes out a long solid line of gunk. I know it doesn’t sound like the most professional way of doing it, but it worked well for me. I could even see the light through the cooler after
