I just traded my 2020 Prime LE for a 2021 Prime LE. When I charged my 2020 the indicator on the dash would show between 29.5 to 31.5 miles of EV range. I just fully charged my 2021 for the first time and the indicator on the dash only shows 21 miles of EV range. The outside temperature is 65 degrees. Did something change from 2020 to 2021? I'm hoping its a simple as the batteries need to be cycled or something? What should I be getting?
yes, am up in my 2021 limited from 22.3 miles to 28.2 miles range at fully charged in first 10 days of ownership.
If it's the first time you've charged it, there's no way the car can know your driving style in EV mode. But there is the possibility that someone took it for a test drive and drove it in EV for a little bit. I think I'd expect it to say about 25 miles if it had never been driven in EV mode. But, as always, the GOM does not have any effect on your actual range.
On my 2020 limited i always get between 29 & 31 miles on a charge. I consider my self lucky in that regard.
When I first got the car the indicator read 21 miles available for EV driving. After driving and charging the car for one week it now reads 28.5 EV miles after charging. No matter if the indicator reads 21 or 28 miles I get 31 miles of EV.
The EV range displayed on the dash is just an estimation based on various factors. But it is not a very good estimation at all unless you drive a very similar route under the same condition every day. It is most closely related to the miles/kWh value you get on your Daily Eco Diary. But, still depending of how you drive your car, you can get some very wild numbers.
The indicator, more commonly known around here as the Guess-O-Meter is purely for entertainment purposes. It determines nothing; it simply reflects how efficiently you drove in the recent past. And as they say in the stock market, "past performance is not indicative of future earnings." Or something like that.
I had the 2020 XLE, and I have the 2021 Limited now. The EV range is identical. Nothing has changed. I've driven up to 43 miles round-trip from 100% to 0% SOC in the 2021. What you see on the computer is a number calculated using a certain algorithm, and it will vary according your driving history and won't necessarily represent the real EV range.
