Hi. I need help getting the right tool to remove oil filter on my 2015 priuc c one. Any help will be apreciated it. Thanks
Honda, but it works, for any and all 12 flute, 64 mm face-to-face. Had mine for maybe 30 years, used on Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. It’s heavy gauge stamped steel: 07AAA-PLCA100
I did a DIY oil change for the first time on my 2014 last week and used these pliers to loosen the filter.
You can’t use the torque spec (13 foot pounds) with the pliers. There is an alternate 3/4 turn past first contact spec as well. And yeah I know: everybody “in the know” just hand-tightens.
Yeah, it was awkward. I found it was easier to loosen from the bottom with the plier handles pointing down instead of trying to do it the proper way from the side. The clamps are nice and grippy, though, so both methods work. @Mendel Leisk good point about torque spec. I think I just hand tightened and maybe used the pliers a little. Since this was my first oil change, I’ve been periodically checking underneath for leaks. It’s looking good so far, but it’s certainly not a bad idea to use a tool that will torque the filter to the recommended spec.
I’ve put a mark on the filter end, say at 6 o’clock, then torqued to 13 ft/lb, and the mark ended up around 3 o’clock, which means the two torque methods jive. but yeah, I know I’m belabouring: the aforementioned Honda filter socket is readily available and will outlive you lol. A little pricey, around $35 USD IIRC.
