I replaced it today and the Red triangle + check engine light + the main console the main batteey light is red. The car starts and runs and the digital dash is working perfectly. Is there a way to reset the computer? I have tried disconnecting the digital dash panel back at the auxillary battery, one of the white connectors and waiting a minute, but still this issue now Have had this car maybe the first one in the Rep of Panama since 2007 and I guess I missed out on the recall for this digital dash. It would go out on me and a compter reset made it work again,b ut I thought I would fix this with a dash replacement. One dealer with so so service and astronomiccal service prices. Is there a fix I can try? The car has been down for 4 or 5 weeks. Maybe only once before I have seen the main battery red light that came on but after driving the car it stayed green. I don't recall the red triangle at that time which was while waiting for this part from the states
After being down for 4-5 weeks, these are likely to be REAL codes. If the HV battery is original, it's very likely a weak module has self discharged during the down period and is triggering a P0A80 code and possibly an individual module code, which will give you the exact lights you're describing. Get an app to read the codes or a code reader (that can speak Prius language) and you'll know for sure. I give it a 97.635% chance that I'm nailing it. Also, after 4-5 weeks, you should check your 12v battery. Even a brand new 12v battery will discharge to a depleted state after about 6 weeks due to small parasitic loads on the car. Check the 12v battery and get the 12v system in good condition first, if needed. Many times, when a weak module causes this problem due to not being used for several weeks, it can be overcome by doing a force charge on the HV battery by pressing the throttle to keep the engine running and charging the battery. Charge it until the car won't let the engine run any more. You should show green bars on the display. Let the car sit for several minutes, then disconnect the 12v battery for a minute or two. Reconnect the battery and then make the car READY. This usually takes 2 presses of the power button since the 12v was turned off. The codes should be clear and hopefully stay clear, since you charged up the weak module by force charging the HV battery. As long as you drive the car frequently, the weak module should work ok for a while, possibly even a very long while.
I got your email butbonly know do I see there was a suggestion of how to get the battery maybe recharged I live at the top of a 2 mile slope to town and it always got a full charge by the timenI hit town. Now it doesn't go beyond blue no green. I fact it always had to discharge extra charge by the time I got to town. I local had a code reader. I have pdf to upload of the codes! They dont tell me what I thought to expect, but they all seem to say something about the battery... Will see now if I can uo load these codes. Hope they are readable
The local who read the codes somehow eliminated the charging of the traction motor from the engine or the wheels. Anyone know the command to turn this back on? This forum rejects my previous post for some reason so I'm listing it again
Half the codes shown under ABS/VSC/TRAC, and all the codes shown under HV, are just 'repeater' codes and aren't anything to worry about in themselves. Those are the C1259 and C1310, which just mean "hey, did you know there are HV codes?" and the HV P3000, which just means "hey, did you know there are traction battery codes?". So that simplifies the picture some. You also have an unusual number of communication failure codes and a code telling you the voltage seen at the brake ECU got lower than 9ish at some point. Those codes do not always mean the 12 volt battery is at fault (a low reading at the brake ECU could also result from a connector or wiring issue somewhere). But in the current picture and with the low usage of the car lately, it would definitely be sensible to check the condition of the 12 volt battery, at least give it a good long full charge, clear the codes (we have a record of them now, so they won't be lost) and see what happens then.
Where exactly do I connect a charger to the tranction battery. I'm only familar charging the only the auxillary in the front of the car. Do I strip out the panels to the traction battery to get to poles to charge it?
if your talking about the prolong Charger go to there site at hybridautomotive.com theirs complete instructions on how to take the car apart to get to the battery and where the charging harness and aux fan unit have to be hooked up to the battery.
That last response is confusing To hook a charger I or I don't have to open up the compartment where the traction battery is mounted? I do have a video that explains how to remove that battery.
