I have to plug in the fob for the car to start. I've changed the battery in the fob, and that didn't make a difference. I still need to plug it in to start. The other fob functions seem to work fine -- it will lock/unlock the car. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Does the fob you have to insert into the car to start have a silver Toyota logo or a black Toyota logo on the back of the fob? SKS requires a silver Toyota logo version (I don't know the part number for that).
Thoughts... Is this car new to you? does it have small black rubber buttons on the front door handles (if not, you don't have the sks option) has it ever worked? is the SKS button (labelled as KEY) under the steering wheel in the out position (the "in" position disables sks) do the black buttons on the door handles work to lock the doors? do the doors unlock when you first approach the car and touch the door handle?
Thanks for replying. It has a silver logo on the fob. And, fyi, both my wife's and my key fob worked fine until a month or so ago. Suddenly we both had to plug the fob in to start the car. I thought it must be the fob battery so I changed them -- but that didn't make a difference.
That was it. We must have accidentally pushed that button. I didn't even know it existed. Thanks so much! The disappointing thing is that I called our local Toyota dealer's service department and they wanted me to bring the car in after I explained the situation. Is that ridiculous or what. They must really be hurting for money. I guess it's time to write a letter...
My guess is that they don't want to be liable for giving out information over the phone. But this seems ridiculous. I wrote them an email - we'll see how they reply...
