Lucky for y'all I've been slammed with work lately, not much time to post. But given a few minutes of downtime here I will now relate a few interesting car sightings: • VW ID4, Tampa Florida near Columbus & Mabry. I had not seen one of these in the wild yet. Good looking car overall and the glossy grey is a great finish. Then it was on to California. • Bugatti - possibly a Veyron? I don't see them often. • Second Bugatti, unknown model. Starting to rethink the 'don't see them often' thing • Third Bugatti, unknown model, definitely rethinking the 'don't see them often' bit. (I saw all 3 of these driving reasonably together-ish along Century Boulevard near LAX. so I think it was a group drive of some sort. All 3 looked kind of ratty, so I'm thinking it was rent-a-supercar douchebro team-building exercise day but I couldn't tell if they were wearing matching Patagonia outfits) •two Toyota Mirais (not that weird to see near LAX, that's where the H2 station is) >> I drove past a shop on W. Century Boulevard that advertised Hybrid-specific service and repair: Hybrid Republic. This is not an endorsement, I've never done business with them, just happened to drive past and take notice. Now I'm in northern Indiana and I've spotted my first electric Mustang sitting in a charger bay. One noticeable side-effect of grill-less electric cars is that it's a lot easier to notice bugs splattered on the front...
It looked like it had a small one. I suppose you could say the same about the Teslas, though this one was wearing quite a few crashed arthropods. Either way, I took it as a few positive indications: The car is more fun to drive than wash; the range is far enough to get out to where the bugs live, and we haven't killed quite all of the bugs yet.
Agh, work's gone from busy to busier. Now in Romania for a few weeks. I got my first ride in a Dacia the other day; James May is clearly onto something. Or at least on something. I've seen a few VW e-Ups and a BMW i-thing but not a lot of electric cars in general. Very few Toyotas, though most of them are Priuseses. Bucharest has a very large network of electric buses and streetcars. They appear to have just enough maintenance to function, but not quite enough to make them enjoyable.
