I have a 2006 Toyota Prius with the smart key. Recently the outside door lock button on the front driver's side door has stopped working. I am the only one who drives it, and so this is the button that gets the most use. To lock the car, I have to use the passenger side button or the hatch, or use the lock button on the fob. If it does need to be replaced, can someone please tell me where I can find a replacement? I searched online, but cannot find anything. Thanks!
How do you get in the car? does it unlock? You can lock the car with the lock/unlock switch next to the power window switches, press it when you exit the car
Yes, the car unlocks just fine. I touch inside the door handle and it unlocks with no problems. Also, the left door lock button has started to work, but it is very spotty. I replaced the battery in the fob, but that did not seem to help.
The thing that usually fails is the "solenoid" actuator that actually moves the lock mechanism. But it is hard to tell that while it is in it's "intermittant" phase.
Seeing as the door locks fine from the other lock buttons, it is not likely to be the door actuator. The button going faulty is looking like the most likely culprit although I can't recall anyone else reporting such a failure. Have you tried your local Toyota parts department?
Sure. If and only IF that test result is consistent and repeatable. When mine failed, it was not.......and exhibited several different results over the first couple of weeks.
