Hello all, I recently purchased a 2005 Prius with 170k (my first), it has a rebuilt battery that was recently put in and still under warranty. The problem I’m having is it seems to sputter and lunge while driving it at any speed. It almost feels like it is constantly switching from EV mode to motor and shows that on the diagnostic screen as well. This also correlates with a check engine light. The problem is intermittent as is the light. Almost like there is a loose connection somewhere. Thanks for any tips.
Welcome to PriusChat!! Can you hear the HV battery fan in the passenger side back seat running on high? Generally speaking, if there are warning lights on the dash, then you have OBD2 codes (DTCs) stored in the ECUs (computers). Find various parts stores for a free scans (each scanner may not be hybrid compatible), then post the codes here for additional guidance. You might be able to find a nice mechanic that will scan it for free as well, only takes a couple of minutes at most. FYI : you're moderated until you've posted 5 times.
Do you know service history? Maybe needs new plugs and/or PCV. Could be a lot of things. Check codes.
