As of writing my 2010 Toyota Prius Gen 3 bone stock boring. I thought it fair to tell you what is still working and what is no longer working after owning her and parking her on the Streets of Upper Manhattan and half the year in the streets of the bronx. So body has held up extremely well considering some of the harsh winters that we went through from early 2010 and the sweltering heat we had this past 2018 right before Corona and even during the outbreak. The Prius has been fighting the good fight but no longer does the Cigarette lighters work for charging and no longer does the Radio stop from turning itself off or change to random channels. The rear right window not longer wants to go down unless I use the switch on the respective door. Other than those things the check engine recently decided to turn itself on and one or more tires is running low on pressure. I think that all but sums it up oh yea and the front hood latch is broken on the right so picking up the hood is a balancing act. But other then all those things the car is running like its showrun 2010 and nothing has changed with the single most important thing A TO B and cheap cheap cheap safe transporation this car is still the raining champion and pays back dividends even in todays Stimulas filled environment.
That handful of electrical gremlins might not take too much effort to track down, and that might be worth doing. Sometimes they do you a favor by showing up first in circuits where they don't inconvenience you much, and that gives you a chance to get on top of them before they get into other circuits where they do.
The Prius definitely gets top marks for reliability. Is this better than the average Toyota or Honda vehicles? SM-G960U ?
It's as good as my Corollas going back to TE series in late sixties thru 82 or so . 3 to 500 K is not abnormal replacing consumables . I've always received this mileage from these models . It's why I bought Prius . Is basically Corolla parts bin car . Revamped by Torrance and NASA and some others . But it's a Corolla in toyodadom. Enjoy roll it. NYC my old home parts would fall off Chevrolets Oldsmobiles etc You could roll the Toyota down those New York City streets at full speed bouncing over potholes nothing ever fell off SM-A715F ?
NYC did steal some hub caps of mine but your right about the car taking a pounding. The car has a total of 68900 miles by the way and i drive her for the utility of mileage as of recent i have been disabling eco mode and using power mode frequently after starting on eco mode for almost a decade straight.
Hard to imagine all this at 68K I'm at 300K in a 09 w none of this cept ABS pump codes but normal pedal so I leave alone.. SM-A715F ?
New York City is brutal to cars parked out in the street. Especially my cars since i commute using a dual motor custom Ancheer Power Plus 250W front and back. I just rarely see the need to drive when the majority of connecting roads in NYC have connecting bike lanes it's just smooth but yeah my Prius is having a hard time adjusting to not being driven.
So I started checking up on the issues I reported earlier in this thread and began to solve some of them. The first issue was that apparently at some point I put an Orange bulb instead of a white one in the reverse light signal on the left hand side. That was an easy one. Then I replaced one of the low beam lights that died on me this week. After I went inside the 2010 Prius and located the micro fuse box under the drivers side top left corner of the bottom of the drivers side. I located two 15 amp micro fuses that blew and that fixed my charging lighter plugs and my radio system seems to be running normal accept for the steering column buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel. I replaced the clock spring with a knock off so its probably needs to be changed out for the OEM clock spring that is located inside the steering wheel behind it and connects all the buttons back through the OBD system that routes it to the radio. The Check engine light I reported was an apparent evaporator core not blowing off but I do recall having some battery issues and alot of radio shorting out senarios that might have contributed to getting the bad code I simply pulled the battery and the code never came back. I filled all four tires at the recommended pressure and slightly above and have no longer seen the tire pressure icon. So the Prius is running at 90% efficiency as of this writing. I am excited to say that owning this girl has been a real dream after 12 years I just couldn't have asked for a better vehicle ever. So again the only two things that don't work are the rear right passenger window won't roll back up using my drivers side panel but does work on the passenger door panel not sure what the hell that is about. The other things is the controls on the steering column are wanky but I already know thats from a poorly made Chinese knock off clock spring that I broke the original one from spinning the steering column and snapping my damn Garmin charging cable around the steering until it broke the clock spring. I was frantic driving one day and well shit happens when you are driving like a complete nut. Other than that this is an Original owner of a 2010 factory bought Toyota Prius I financed through Toyota Credit during the 0% APR program they did back in 2010 5 years later she was paid off and 7 years after ownership has been kicking some serious but for me as a first time new car and as a first time hybrid I just love this damn thing. I know that I have saved so much money on gas I will let your know when I need to replace the traction batteries. I hope to upgrade the traction batteries to a bettery composition that hopefully improves mileage and makes this an even more evolved and better smart car. Thank you all for being supportive as we all explore the starship PRIUS together and continue to improve on the ownership experience for each other and the community of people waiting on the other side to finally come over to smarter transportation systems like HYBRID and FULL EV transporters. But at the end of the day WE are the orginal PRI Fam so yeah we should get cookies sent to our homes with Mustang Mach-Es for free. Just saying. LOL HAPPY 2022 EVERYONE WE MADE IT YEAHHHHHHHHH.
I wanted to call you out cause your the MAN DUDE thanks a ton for giving for the heads up that the Prius has systems that tie into redundancies. I appreciate the engineering so much more because of what you replied thank you for giving me the initiative to dig deeper and actually resolved deeper rooted issue just by fixing each problem one at a time.
Glad it helped. I've always found a lot of problems that happen in cars are small problems. But sometimes you get a car where small problems have been cropping up for a while and not kept on top of, and eventually it just starts to feel like an unfixable mess, which is a shame.
Reminds me of this tub of cables our son had accumulated, everything under the sun, in one massive Gordian Knot. I tucked into unraveling and sorting them out; musta been a week before I had it done.
Well the Radio decided to start glitching out on me but I need to purchase a factory OEM clockspring which will probably fix all the problems at once hopefully. But all and all the Prius is a raining transportation champion and a hard vehicle to pass up 12 years later. I drive her twice a week on the weekends mostly as she is getting older I don't want to burn the ole girl out till my grandbabies coming running back to me that shes choking up on them if you know what I means.
