So I got into an accident just a few days ago when I doze off a little bit on the wheel coming to a stop ( I had to stay up the night before working on school assignments and got no sleep). I was driving back home from work after working a morning shift. I know… I’m terrible for taking the wheel in this situation.. I should have taken an Uber home. I was coming to a stop and started to lightly break it when I dozed off, a woke up a few seconds later and realized I was drifting towards the car in front of me too fast with little space to stop the car in time. I was able to somewhat swerve into the right lane right before impact and avoided a head on collision. No damage was done to the engine of the car from the looks and performance of the it. But the fender and door on the driver side is damaged, along with the tire. So my question is, should I take my car to a tire shop to get the tire replaced and then take it to an auto shop or dealership to get the fender and door replaced? Or do both at an auto shop or dealership? iPhone ?
That wheel will require more than just dynamic balancing Looking at the fender gaps, you may need additional work (does the door open much?). Best to start by replacing the wheel (and tire if needed), then shop it around for repair estimates. Do you have comprehensive insurance? An impressive save, and this gen2 will live on.. The door barely opens enough to where I can squeeze in.. and as far as insurance goes I only have liability.. iPhone ?
There is a fair amount of "minor" body damage. The wheel is broken and must be replaced along with the tire (I never trust the tire's integrity after that kind of incident). The suspension at the left front should be inspected to see if anything was bent from the impact. So a good body shop should be able to do all that. However, not all body shops are that good, might want to have a reputable general repair shop look at it as well. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Without comprehensive insurance and on a limited budget first step is finding a Gen2 Prius at a junk yard and removing the left fender. This will give you an opportunity to learn how it's mounted. Then you need a new wheel. You also might have to bend or replace some of the smaller pieces that the fender mounts to, likely will need plastic clips that holds bumper cover in place. Then polish out the scratches in door as best you can and you should be good to go.
