will explain my issue as best as possible Gen3 2012 70.000 miles 1. Continues rattling engine noise, no matter if cold start or when engine is warm, no matter rpm; when i accelerate just faster or lower rattle. Idle or driving both same. Only rattling no vibration ever. 2. After Scan no engine error codes (autel). 3. Seen many videos on youtube "engine noise" and comparing to my car noise is not that loud and in general they all vibrate. 4. Since it started drove the car only ~20miles slowly urban driving indeed mostly electric noticing less power on engine but maybe only confused due to ratting. all 4 cylinders ok. No error codes or misfire. 5. No signs of blown headgasket, refrigerant color and level ok, oil quality and level ok. 0w20. 6. Done an EGR test by disconnecting plug and also block the path. Noise all same, no changes. See pictures. 7. Will soon take to mechanic to revise oil pressure, maybe sensor not working. 8. Loose engine chain, another option i consider. 9. Use hybrid assistant to see engine info while driving. Engine temperature green. ok Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.
I had a distinct rattling after doing major maintenance on our 2011. Turned out to be a bolt that I forgot to tighten down. It was specifically the one behind the passenger side headlight that holds the air intake hose down. Check all the bolts and screws and harness clips for loose or missing fasteners. forget to mention important matter. Car was storaged for 8 months, never start up. New 12v battery Hybrid battery ok. New oil, oil filter, refrigerant. See 1st video 1st start up instanctly after oil change, no noise. See video after a few miles noise begun. Any advise welcome. thank you.
My old engine sounded a little like this. I would say valve tap. I also had a blown HG but that sound is not like yours , HG sounds way worse.
The first video the engine is not running. The 2nd video sounds like the lifters have not gotten up to pressure after sitting for so long they tend to bleed down. Has it gotten any better? Maybe a clogged filter?
for sure 1st video engine is running, but filmed at a different place where oil, oil filter, refrigerant was changed and some other noise in the back making it harder to hear. You can hear it a little better when i move to the passenger side. Do you know the solution to the lifter problem? The 2nd video is recent, always same noise since day one. 2nd video you hear with removed air filter, when you mean filter you mean air? Anyway same noise with or without air filter. Fuel tank recently full. In case of low oil pressure, i assume a red triangle goes on right? or a yellow triangle? Exhaust pipe with good compression. I also removed while iddle the engine oil cap, no oil spill and good compression. Note: for both did not measure just felt compression
I meant oil filter. Usually the lifter noise goes away quickly. If it's been that way since you bought it (new), I wouldn't worry about it. The oil light comes on to tell you that you just burned up your motor by running no oil. I couldn't hear anything in the first video, I guess because of the other noise. Why did you change the refrigerant??? It doesn't really go bad.
Hi Ok, i will put another new oil filter just in case. I am leaning on lifter problem like you suggested, for the momment of all suggestions is what most convince me. Lifter noise i just put a can of liqui moly for lifters noise. Have to drive it to make effect in case it does but i am worry driving at all; just letting it iddle. Just doing this prior to start opening engine and unclog lifters; in case this is the problem. Car had problems only after leaving storage for 8 months. Before all ok I dont see any oil light on dash on ignition. see picture. That is why my question about yellow or red triangle with exclamation mark. I can hear for sure, watch same video i show you. in the computer or with headphones. Refrigerant i change every ~5 years.
