I'm looking to re-route the USB in my 2022 Prius from the cupholder area, to the inside of the center console (arm rest). Whether my phone is plugged in, or I have a Carplay wireless dongle plugged in, either will take up a cupholder, and the cables become a mess. My old Prius had the USB located inside the center console - not sure why it was moved outside. Does anyone have any guidance or ideas about re-routing the USB from where it is by the cupholders to the inside of the center console?
I have a wireless AI box that I plugged in with a flat USB cable and then put it in my armrest storage. The armrest can close and it doesn't pinch the cable.
I had a similar issue; I bought a short USB extender so that the big CarPlay dongle can live in the armrest. It's sometimes a little hard to close the console lid but it usually works fine, and it un-cluttered the cupholders. Also, sometimes I have to "reboot" the CarPlay dongle when it doesn't connect to the phone. At that point having the car's USB port on the outside makes it easier.
Imagine this is handy. Have you run into battery drain given that the device is no longer plugged into the console?
