Is my ABS braking system going bad? I hear a pumping sound when I have my foot on the brake at A stoplight. I avoid it by placing the car in park.
Sounds like it do you have any ABS VSC traction control lights any of that on are you low on brake fluid?
Do you hear the pumping sound often when your foot is not on the brake? Or only when you are holding the brake pedal?
It could be your climate control system, one of the servos trying to find position and "pumping" back and forth. I hear it on mine and assumed it was the brakes, but next time you hear it try changing your climate vent settings and I think you'll hear it stop for a second as doors open/close in the climate system. I am not 100% sure, but I think mine is a servo noise as someone suggested here.
