What is happening to my car?? Help!

    Hello
    Brand new here. I bought a 2004 prius last winter with 267000 miles on it. Ran great all winter and spring. Once weather warmed up (over 85) the car would struggle daily. Once car was warmed up triangle ️ and all dash lights would light up and car would go another mile then die while driving, no power at all and throw itself into park! Car would start right back up after i let it cool for like 10 mins and would go another 10 miles or so before repeating. After googling stuff I replaced the inverter pump and all was fine the rest of the summer. Drove 1000s of miles like a champ! I Let the car sit a month without driving it and all of the sudden its doin it again. Drive about three or four miles and it lights up again and dies...zero power. I let sit 10 mins and take terminals off and it starts right back up. When the dash lights up the fan in the back seat kicks in. I can hear the pump I installed running so new issue? Overheating? Love this little car don't wanna retire it, but also don't wanna dump too much money into it. Any help would be appreciated. Ty!!!

    You need to read error code from dash lights. The problem most likely is you need to replace your inverter cooling pump, sometimes you can get a new pump for $30 and install yourself in less than an hour or two. Of course a Toyota Stealership will charge you $200 for an OEM pump and scam you a few hundred more for labor. First step is using an OBD2 reader and a phone app to read the error codes.

    is there any movement of the inverter fluid in the reservoir?

    Did you replace the pump with an OEM one or an after market unit? Bisco is correct on checking to make sure the coolant is moving in the coolant resivour when the car is in READY mode. If not the pump has failed again.

    Not enough information. Get a bluetooth OBD widget and the torque app for your phone. Watch some utube videos on the subject to learn the details.. Hook it up and see whats up. Colorado is right, only the factory inverter pump. But you could also have overheated HV batteries, which is usually just cleaning the fan. Again a video and an hour of your time. But bottom line the car will tell you what is wrong you just need the tools and learn to speak prius.

    When the dash lights up the fan in the back seat kicks in.

    I don't recall that the inverter pump makes the HV battery fan turn on. Perhaps a HV battery issue like a P0A80, but checking the codes will tell the true tale...
