I just put on my Michelin X Ice winter tires and new steel wheels. I noticed alittle bit of a problem when I removed the front left wheel . . . . it was stuck on there pretty good and I had to give it a pretty good kick to loosen it and get the summer alloy wheel off. Anyways . . . after I put on all four I took it for a test drive around the block. It made a rather loud grinding noise from that same left front brake area for the first few 100 feet or so and then it stopped. I drove it a little further and every thing seemed normal. Then when backing into the drive way I briefly heard it as I turned the steering wheel. It sounds like the front left brake rubbing. Any ideas guys . . . I change my own oil and tires but never touch things like brakes. It will be Monday afternoon before I can check with my dealer. By the way, I like the tires for the limited amount of driving on them that I have done. Thanks for the help.

I've also occasionally gotten a piece of gravel or something in between the rotor and the shield or a bracket, and that will make a very mysterious noise.
<_< Can't help but ask: "Had you had the tires rotated on a regular basis?" With an alloy wheel 'stuck' sounds as if it had been awhile since that wheel had been removed. another case for having the tires rotated every 5K miles.

Still, I think it's somewhat likely the splash shield or whatever they call it got bent in kicking the tire loose. Jacking up that corner and taking a look is probably worthwhile.
why not pull the LF wheel off and see what and where it's rubbing? This is what the dealer will do, have a look it might be something simple or even a bad wheel. Have a look in the caliper and see if something has fallen in the pad area that might be rubbing and making noise.
Thanks for all the help . . . the noise did stop as soon as it started just once around the block and everything is normal . . . yes always do the star pattern . . . . dealer rotated the tires in August with the steering recall. Got the wheels and tires from TireRack.com By the way guys . . . . with regular rotation, the summer tires are the original with 28885 miles and still look like I could get another 10000 (not near the wear indicators) but I am planning on replacement in June when my inspection is do.
