This question comes up occasionally. One thing that puzzles me: you do need to open up the battery and install proprietary wiring harness for this charger. Do you have that, or have one on order? Have you tried Dr Prius, see what it says?
Yes you will need to install prolongs proprietary cable that works the fan and all this kind of stuff You're going to be fooling with this kind of thing anyway so it would behoove you to put two leads for tapping in and charging the whole pack That's what I got to do here so I can easily connect my charger which mine is the Venice hybrid and not have to move any thing to do that
You'll need the harness. I believe it was $150. So unless someone is renting the whole system, it won't do you much good without the harness. You have to remove the cover of the hybrid battery to install it. So It's not just something easily removed and installed on another battery. Purchasing the whole system would probably be best, but of course more costly. But still less than a new battery.
It's like buying a treadmill because you hope it will resolve your chest pains. Grid chargers like the Prolong are typically used for "preventive" maintenance (on an existing pack), or cycling & balancing a pack with some replacement modules (diy refurbish) If it's throwing codes, then one or more modules are already "failed", OR there's a voltage sensing fault. Neither will be helped by grid charger. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
No I don't have that wiring harness. Sounds like I need to learn more about this system! I did run Dr. Prius, which reported the P0A80, and then clicking info on that code, it said Prolong might be useful for this problem.
I was running Dr. Prius, and the info it directed me to on the P0A80 code it found was the Prolong system. So I thought at least in some instances of P0A80, it could be useful.
