My 2011 Prius got a clean bill of health from Toyota recently, except for leaking front shocks. The suspension seems great, so I put off dealing with it for 5K miles. I just did oil change / tire rotation and took pictures of the shocks. I will try to do the job myself, but I can't get to it right away. This car is a delivery vehicle, driven about 3000 miles a month. Can I safely let this wait a month or two, or should I get on this immediately?

The pics are passenger side, which is definitely the worst of the two.

    Thanks very much everyone.

You can wait, it won't affect much. You just won't feel as planted on the ground while driving, but that's about it

This is how it was when I bought it. This is the first time I have actually looked at the shocks since I bought the car. I have only had the car about 8 months.

I am going to try to get the shocks done before the end of June. Planning to go with KYB and do it myself. After watching the videos on Youtube it looks pretty straight forward. Toyota only suggested I get the shocks changed, however I see a lot of people suggest if you're doing the shocks, should probably do sway arms and possibly other parts as well at the same time. Any thoughts on that? Thanks again to both you and Mendel. :)

Yes on waiting....I have done KYB Strut plus on front and rear. I also did new sway arms....then get an alignment ASAP. I scheduled my appointment on Moday and did the shocks over the weekend. Both my Prii are Gen 2 it wasn't that difficult. I went with CarParts.com
like $600 delivered. about 3 days of deliveries....oh for both front and rear shocks...Rears are easier than the fronts. If you are going to do both anyway....start on the rears....and consider a Prius Off Road kit. for extra ground clearance on driveways and shopping malls access aras.

Thanks for the reply; currently I am planning only on doing the front. That is my plan based on the assumption that during the multi-point inspection if Toyota thought the rear shocks were bad or on their way out, they would have tried to sell me that as well lol. Same with the sway arms. Although, I have also thought, since I am going to be doing it anyway, I might as well spend a bit of extra money and do the rear shocks and sway arms also.
