I have a 2010 Prius with 250,000 miles. It shudders, I think maybe when it goes from electric to gas. Yesterday the Check Hybrid System light and triangle came on and she stalled. Restarted and made it home. Coil pack, plugs and injectors have been replaced, in an attempt to stop the shudder. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I had the same problem solved by replacing a dying traction hybrid battery. It’s the high voltage 200v. Others will tell you it’s a blown head gasket. Typically shudders in cold morning startups and goes away after warm up.
Autozone provides a free OBD reader if your vehicle is in parking lot. Expect POA 080. It’s a DTC ( diagnostic trouble code ) Check Hybrid System ie replace Hybrid battery. Attached screenshot below.
When is the shudder, any time, or just during start up? Are you first owner? Ever cleaned the intake and EGR components? Check for codes.
During cold morning startups and after DTC P0A080 thrown now during shutdown sounding like old school preignition knock. I’m the original owner and never cleaned or replaced injectors, coils, EGR nor PCV. My 3rd gen 2010 Prius has just under 193k miles. Replacing hybrid battery fixed all issues. Recalculating MPG. Hope better than 33.
