I have a 2007 Prius and it will not shift out of Neutral or Park. The red triangle comes on. Anybody have this issue? It is not the battery. We charged that. Was looking to buy a gear shifter. Any help? Thank you.
but are you sure it charged properly and you're getting 12+ volts to the fuse box? you need to have the trouble codes read for a correct diagnosis, but you can throw in a shifter ifyou want to gamble
If there's a "master warning light" then there should be codes in one or more of the car's ecu's. Blindly tossing a part at the problem has very low chances of fixing it. Here's a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices. Some are capable of reading codes and data on all systems of a Gen2 Prius. https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Keep in mind that the shifter in a Prius is nothing more than a game-controller input to the computer running the car. When you move it, you're telling the computer "I'd like to shift out of neutral or park please." The computer then either does what you asked, or, for one of about a couple hundred reasons, lights the red triangle and says "nope." It also sets one or more trouble codes explaining why it lit the triangle and said nope. So it's probably nothing to do with the game controller being bad and the computer not getting your input. (If the computer does see an electrical problem with the shifter, then yes, that's one of the couple hundred possible reasons it can light the triangle and say nope. But that's rare. Reading the trouble codes is the key. If the shifter is the issue, then you'll know from the codes.)
Thank you both for your help. Here is what codes I got when I checked the car: Code. Sub code LAN Monitor NAVI 01. D6. 00-09 LAN Monitor G/W 01. D6. 00-03 01. E0. 190-00-02 LAN Monitor DSP-AMP 01. D6. FF-1 01. E0. 190-FF-1 01. E3. FF-1 Thanks in advance for your help, Richard
As mentioned, you can only pull infotainment codes via the MFD. You need a capable scantool that plugs into the OBD2 port under the edge of the dashboard, to the right of the steering column. One option is Techstream - lots of search results on how to get that. Another is to read this thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices. Some are fully capable of pulling codes and data on all 16 systems in a Gen2 Prius. https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
