The Car: 2012 Prius, 210k miles Issue: P0A80 code shows up. I reset the code but it returns Question: If I replace block #9 do you think the battery will last 6+ months Troubleshooting: I ran the Dr Prius Life Expectancy Test and it's around 20%. 1 out of the 4 times I did the test, it said that Block #9 is weak. Block #9 Voltage is higher when charging and lower when discharging I tried the Full Battery Test a few times but it's not able to finish even when i accelerate/decelerate quickly. It does find the code and provided a warning for "Battery temperature abnormal." IR and Load testing-Upper voltage passes. Load testing - bottom voltage does not complete. Background: The family is attached to the car. We'll likely replace the battery new from toyota ($2,200 in parts). The reason why i'm looking for a temporary alternative is that we've spend a lot of money on the car already and I'm just trying to spread the impact. 1.5 years ago the brake booster was replaced ($3k+). Just last month a new rebuilt engine was installed due to a bad head gasket ($3k+). I'll likely buy the module from 2ndlifebattery. Below are videos from Dr Prius. This was recorded when it's 100F outside so it's stressing the battery. While around the neighborhood: While parked and discharging with the AC on full: I'm also open to other alternatives.
if you already spent the money for the booster and head gasket, don't cheap out with the battery. Just get the new battery for $2200 and you'll have a great car. These are the only 3 major problems plaguing this car, you're facing the 3rd now. Just replacing a bad module is not a good repair method. There's a lot more needed for a good repair of a hybrid battery. It may last 1 week, it may last 6 months, you won't really know.
All of those other costs could have been almost sliced in half but maybe where you live and that sort of thing makes that not so possible. Some people know how to do these things others don't. We didn't pay anywhere near any of that for any of those issues on any of ours so far and probably won't other than the battery which is gone up we paid $1464 after trade in and all the nonsense buying online was a thing I didn't need the service department to do any service for me All I need is the part when you're paying for service like anything else that's when you can really get bent over pretty good just like the HVAC guy coming to your house and servicing your air conditioner things can get out of hand really quickly I don't have them at my house.
