2010 with about a billion miles. I've got two things going on and they happen so rarely that I haven't been able to troubleshoot them. I don't know that they're related and I'm stumped. 1. Occasionally, after I stop the car there is a loud "thunk" that to me seems to be coming from under my feet, but my wife is convinced that it's coming from the rear of the car. The interesting part is that it happens after I've been stopped for a while. The last time it happened we were stopped at a light on level pavement and had been sitting there for 20 or 30 seconds before the thunk. We had touched nothing and my foot never moved on the brake. Other times it happens just a couple seconds after coming to a stop, but 99 percent of the time it just doesn't happen at all. I wondered if I had screwed up the last time I did the brakes myself or if there was a suspension problem, so I had my mechanic take a look, and he found nothing out of the ordinary. 2. Even less frequently there is a serious vibration in the rear wheels when I'm braking and I can't duplicate that one either. Last time it was on a freeway offramp braking normally. I've tried to duplicate it but even in a panic braking test, it doesn't happen. This one is very very rare. Again, my mechanic saw no problem with rotors or pads, and the wheels don't wiggle when you get it up in the air and push on them so I assume it's not wheel bearings. Again, I'm not saying that they're related problems. I just don't know. There aren't any other problems with the car at all and these don't seem to present safety issues for the moment, but they're new and definitely get your attention. Thanks.
A billion miles might explain the strange noises. There shouldn't be any noises when you're stopped. The car isn't even suppose to be running.
