I had the common malfunction of the odometer not displaying anything so decided to fix it by following Youtube vids. After following few of the Youtube vids on replacing capacitor, even ordered the right one the vids replaced with, 16V 220uf (original is 16v 100uf), the odometer display turns on everytime and I was happy until I started driving. All of a sudden display will go from 9mph to high speeds like 80s/90s and I know it is not because speedometer was changed to kilometers. Only thing I can think of is that while removing the ribbon from the odometer module, it did make a small scratch but not deep. I followed the steps of making sure not to exceed over 160F and not for longer than 8 seconds on the circuit board where I was soldering, so what gives? Anyone had experience with this happening?
Bummer... It's pretty rare for damage to give the wrong readings rather than to simply not work at all, which makes it all the more mysterious. At this point only thing left to do is pull it out and post photos. If it's the ribbon cable that's easy to replace with one from the junk yard. If it's the circuit board you might have to have https://www.texashybridbatteries.com/prius-combination-meter-repair take a look at it?
Im gonna take it all out and clean the flux residue and yes, Im gonna take pic of the light indentation on the ribbon. Also, I will take pics of my soldering, which I dont think is the issue but more pics the better
