2009 Toyota Prius PA093 Ahhhhh! can someone help??? Check: Inverter pump not working. Bought an IR temp reader at Cantire. When I get christmas lights inverter is about 100F. Let it cool for 30min to 1hr and then back on the road. WORST timing ever for this!!!! I am on a road trip from Whitehorse to Vancouver. (2700 km) Anyone on that path that has a pump in stock and is willing to do the work? I am willing to pay fair price. Aug 24/25/26 - 2023 Limping along to Fort Nelson today Tomorrow limp along to Prince George After That probably will just limp home and do it when I get there. (Edit>> Ended up limpin home. What an exercise) Triggering the Christmas lights about every two hours. Reducing my speed. AC is off. Can anyone offer suggestions to mitigate the handicap?? >> Contacted Toyota. Says pump is on back order. >> I can order an OEM off amazon. Can he at my house by the time I get there >> Just next couple of days are gonna go painfully slow And the I Made it Home Summary: I was able to drive the car decently if speed and outside temperature were ok and could avoid the thermal limit switch(Christmas lights on Dash) My trip outdoor temperature range went from 10DegC to 30DegC At 10DegC I could cruise at 90km/hr Between 10DegC and 15DegC I could cruise at 80-85km/hr Between 15DegC and 20DegC I could cruise at 70-80km/hr Between 20DegC and 25DegC I could cruise at 60-70km/hr Between 25DegC and 30DegC 45-55km/hr and Christmas lights >> cruise control was handy for this >>Climbing big hills at 35-55km/hr >>Driving with hazrd light on a lot of the way Third night of Drive. Did a red-EYE starting at 1am when temp was around 10DegC most of the night. Man. I love the fact that it has the thermal switch. Waiting for new pumpr to arrive so I can swap in a new one. Nasty this. If you don't know about it. It is only after starting the road trip that it got hot enough to throw the thermal switch. About 1 hour in at 110km/hr. The rest of the info was about mitigating a bad situation. Love the Prius. This was just a bad timing MisAdventure Just posting this in case it helps someone down the road
I'm 300 kilometers south of Vancouver, BC. and have a spare pump on my parts rack at my house and could put it on really quick for a real low price... But I suspect that's a bit too far away from where you are. If it wasn't so smoky from all the wildfires I could drive a ways North and meet you and get it done, but I get sick just briefly going outside in this madness right now. One thing you can do is drive at night when its cool out. The other thing you can do is buy a bag of ice and put it on top of your inverter, ideally a 1/2 hour of so before you start driving again.
What I did was take the heater core pump from between the break actuator and the stroke simulator which is the master cylinder if you will that the pedals connected to there's a little spa pump that sits in between those two devices It's the same size hose and from what I can tell it pumps water into the heater core I took that pump put it down where my inverter pump was plug the hoses right up to it slid the clamps down cut the plug off with the pump and everything moved it down to the spot where the inverter pump goes hooked up nicely still in there. And use the plug that came with the pump and wired it to the plug where the inverter pump is very similar plugs no big issue that pump has been down there running the inverter for almost a year now maybe a little longer It never even gets temperature anymore I can always hold that inverter pump in and out fittings on the bottom of the aluminum pan of the inverter never have to move my hand I just joined the two hoses where I move the pump for the heater core and when I got finished with all that and got done and back home. Out of a spare car I replaced the heater pump and I left the heater pump in my '09 as my inverter pump and still in there today looks like it doesn't have the burning up problems that can happen with the flat pancake mag drive type pump.
Hello All: An update. I have installed a new inverter pump and things are behaving better. The christmas lights appear to be history. When I connect an OBD scanner the PA093 is still registered. Do I need to clear it or will the Prius clear it on its own? (No hybrid warning on dash. No check engine light on dash) Thanks
Generally I clear it after I scan the car do the repair for the code I clear the code let the computer re-scan after it's cleared to make sure it's not still sitting there no matter what the lights on the dash are telling me that's just protocol at least here it is.
My Wifes Car through a code when her invertor died. I used Dr. Prius App to clear the code and its never been back. This was 2 years ago.
Another idea is to try and grab one from a junkyard along the way. Or an autozone if you trust them and got the bucks, maybe buy some tools, swap it out, you can call the junkyards and ask on availability of at least having a prius, best! My codes tend to clear after 5 minutes of driving...
