The plastic cover at the hinge at front part of my sunroof has deteriorated. I'd like to get this replaced as I am afraid of it leaking. Does anyone have any information that can help me. What part is it? Is it a chore to replace (like the headlight ) by a mechanic, body shop, dealer. Or other alternatives to covering it that doesn't involve duct tape. Bill32803
It is a solar roof 2014 Prius 3. The plastic strip that runs across the very front of the opening. Maybe the cover for spring to raise the air foil that pops up? Any help would be appreciated.
Wow you are amazing. Found the part. Weather stripping. Amazing. Maybe it attaches with duct tape???? Thank you so much.
If it uses tape to attach usually it will come with the part or it will be specified in the service procedure that you need double-sided tape not duct tape.
There's also this stuff called goop that can be used for lots of mounting things similar to this and when need be it can be released rolled up and reapplied is necessary It works like glue but it disconnects very much unlike glue I guess is what I'm trying to say It's very good for mounting things that can be ripped off by wind force and be destroyed.
Tom, the info was spot on. Thank you very much. I did find the part number, but found it available here in the US from a Toyota dealer up north. Saved me $80 in shipping from Europe. I procrastinated doing it, but finally got to it. Old one came out easily since it was dry and cracked. I had to get my neighbor to help me put the new one in as it was a very snug fit. Down to just 2-3 mm extra space. But got it in pretty well. Two or three days in the sun let the part soften and fit in beautifully. Thanks again for your help. Bill
Glad it all worked out and sunroof is proper . The only thing I miss on Gen2 no sunroof. I've had sun roofs and many of my Toyotas and most of the summer they are open. I love them I may put one in my Gen 2 traveling car.
It could be very helpful to add a photo and/or part link to this thread, from the OP who successfully found and replaced the parts. There are so many weatherstrippy bits up there, a photo might be clearer than just "plastic strip that runs across the very front of the opening."
Post the part number too, and/or link. Likely on this page: Roof panel & back window glass for Toyota Prius XW30, 3 generation, restyling 12.2011 - 11.2015 - Toyota Car and Auto Spare Parts - Genuine Online Car Parts Catalogue - Amayama
If you had laid it in the sun for 30 minutes or so it would have soften up and it would of went in easier.
