So the OEM tires are toast at 60k/ got new Ecopia 422 17" tires. I know there is a break in period, I have about 800 on them and to note its been under 40 degrees since middle of December but i have been getting terrible gas milage. I know they are new but its still around 45-50 mpg. Hopefully when the weather warms up I will get a increase? I know they are 70k rated so they are probably heavier than the oems. Any insight from the gurus?
My OEM tires were Ecopias and they lasted 80K miles. I replaced them with the same ones and saw a few MPG decrease (approx 5 MPG) and it took about 1000 miles to see it return. Is this is your first winter with your Prius? The fuel efficiency of these cars drop drastically with the cold as it needs to keep the engine on longer to warm itself and the cabin. I would say the cold is your biggest culprit for the large double digit MPG decrease. When the weather warms up, hopefully you’ll see it return to optimal efficacy.
