I've been lucky to not have a speedometer capacitor go till now. I've got a local junkyard who has 3 clusters. He and I know each other well he told me $20 for a cluster.

What I'm wanting to know is the speedometer tied to VIN? I.E. will it work (even if miles are different) as a plus and play if i pull one and toss it in my 2nd gen?

I've read the "we will rebuild your cluster" descriptions on eBay and they all say to include miles and VIN... so I wasn't sure if I just tossed one in, if it would work without some kind of programming.

I do have a laptop with techstream... if that helps. It's just unfamiliar waters and looking for easiest way to get speedometer working.

Reach out to TexasHybridBatteries.... I sent 2 units into him and replaced mine best money well spent. The IIRC odometer does store the mileage in your speedo. If you install a different unit I believe your car will take on the higher mileage of the 2 units. I could be wrong...

Seems to me it takes over the cluster that you install I put one out of another car It was higher mileage than mine I think and I did another car and both of them mileage has changed to what I presume is what was in the car that the speedometer resided in which I didn't waste time turning on to find out I just make a note write it down and put it on a sticker down here under the dash so I remember when I need to know my total mileage what I need to add or subtract No problem It's $20 is good sometimes I get them from LKQ for free but I don't know if they're working or not I've had good luck with that and ABS actuators actually
