is there any scanner that costs less than 500 , that i can use like a toyota handheld tester, i have a 06 tacoma and the occupant classfication ECU needs reprogramming ( the ECU was damaged purchased a new one)
I don't know if you'll find something for less than $500, but even on Toyota's TIS site, they mention other vendors that support the standard required to do reprogramming. But you'll also need the firmware upgrade, which you need to buy from Toyota. A new ECU though should have the latest firmware code on it, so no reprogramming should be required. Unless by 'programming' you mean customizations. In other words to change various settings from defaults. You'll pretty much need Toyota's tool for that, although some settings can be done with varius documented 'dances'.
customizations sorry i didnt mention that. yea the occupant classification system requires you to do zero point calibration, im wondering if i buy a seat with all the sensors and ECU's i wouldnt have to program it, im thinking because it seems the THHT stores this calibration data information in some sort of NVRAM on the occupant classification ECU. I think the Prius's that come with the advanced airbag systems also come with these types of sensors. i can tell you that we removed our passenger seat for a few days and when we put it back in, it did not need recalibration. but that was the same seat, not a new one.
what happened was that hte tacoma was flooded, just to the level where that occupant classification ECU was located, and burned it out when the dealership turned ig-on. ahh. nope, you need the scantool for that. shouldn't cost ya more than 0.5 hr labor though, it's easy.
