My 2007 was hit by a distracted driver and there is some fender damage above the driver tire but the repair shop is saying that the coolant heat storage tank needs to be replaced which is 2k msrp. I feel that this means I’ll probably just be offered a check to total the car. However the odd thing is I was above to drive back home from the scene without any issue and no lights are on my screen. Just wondering if I would be better off taking the car back as is (for a smaller amount) and fixing it with a couple of local Prius guys I know for far less.
Actually they’re the same, it’s a $200 part but for some reason for this model is $1400. Maybe it’s been discontinued 16660-21011 - Drive Motor Inverter Coolant Reservoir - 2004-2009 Toyota Prius | OEM Genuine Toyota Parts
The coolant heat storage tank system on the generation 2 and the driver side front fender is a thermos looking tank a pump a sending unit and a few hoses. You can buy all that off of a junk car for almost free place is throw this stuff out so they're probably let you have it or charge you $20 usually in a good collision the tank is compromised You chuck it stick in one from another car that hasn't been hitting is not dented just by looking at it and the other thing that can really go bad is the pump which sits right next to the tank looks like a little spa circulator pump with like 5/8 fittings and then into the storage tank is screwed a temperature sensor Toyota temperature sensors rarely go bad so if there's a problem with the coolant heat storage tank the tank itself is dented or leaking or the pump does not moving the coolant like it's supposed to and you get the code You've got nothing well at least so far and there's only two parts that really get replaced so I would keep my car and get the parts for free and change them at my leisure.
Well I took the car back for just a few hundred bucks less than what was offered to surrender. My friend works on Priuses locally so we’ll see how much to fix or I’ll just sell the valuable parts like battery and ABS, both of which I bought OEM the last few years. The only issue is it’s a salvage title now which may hurt my sale price.
Well you must be in some foreign country where pricing is well interesting to say the least here in the States you wouldn't buy this new you would take it off another car that's on molested in the front driver fender pretty much guarantees you a success at decent parts for near free none of this in the US would cost anywhere near $200 you'd get that whole coolant heat storage tank the pump that's mounted right next to it The temp sensor that's in the tank probably all of that for 200 or less and then if you needed the inverter cooling pump they might even throw that in and you can buy that online at hundreds of places so maybe you're somewhere where they don't do this kind of thing a lot I don't know doesn't say in your profile where you are that usually means far away or something.
