Hybrid system Malfunction (Visit Your Dealership)

    never heard of a load test that took more than a few minutes. swing by an auto zone for a free one if you have time.

    contact toyota. my dealer gave me a loaner for a leaking windshield which has already been 10 days and parts are on backorder.
    i'm sure the dealer is not paying for the loaner.

    About the DIO KARR alarm system in the car I bought:

    The Toyota Clovis dealership where I bought this car is a Penski dealership.
    There was $0 clovis dealership markup on the MSRP price for the car.
    In December of '23 every Toy Prius Clovis sold had a 'KARR security systems developed by SWDS' system installed in as a Dealer installed Option (DIO). The KARR alarm DIO increased the car price by $1295. I secured this car with a deposit and waited for it to be delivered.

    My Local SLO Toyota dealership was marking their PP up $7500 above MSRP at the time (I negociated this down to $5500), and they adding a Vehicle Theft Registration (VTR) as a DIO for an additional $499. They were not willing to sell the car without this DIO cost, stating that it was install at Toyota (FIO) and that they activated/registered it at their dealership as a DIO cost.
    I canceled this sale the day the car arrived at the SLO dealersship.

    Point being that the car has an alarm system:
    'KARR security systems developed by SWDS'
    I was required to buy it if I bought from Clovis toyota at the time.
    They installed and activated it. I figured I'd just let it ride and see how it works out.

    I do believe that this alarm system is working and adding to the 12v parasitic load on the on the vehicle battery. Most likely a sufficient paricitic load to exasperbate the 12v battery problems I am experiencing now.

    I installed a Battery Monitor II (BM2) device on the battery. It reports 12v battery voltage periodically and plots a graph of that voltage on the iphone app and can download battery voltage over time as a csv to my phone.

    I also have charged the battery with a CTEK MultiUS 77002 7.0 amp lead acid battery charger. I have done this a few times, when I fond the battery voltage down approaching 12v (resting voltage).

    I just do not believe that I should have to manually charge the 12v battery on a new carr periodically.

    I guess that my first effort will be to turn off the car alarm and see how the toyota 12v system holds up without that paracytic load.

    If that does not work, I could prop up the battery performance for a long time by charging it weekly with the CTEK. But this defeats the idea of having a warranry on the vheicle that includes the battery.

    Disappointed to say the least.

    Does the battery have to be isolated from the car to perform this test ?

    it's just a machine that puts a controlled load on the battery and calculates health.

    I figured that. But does the battery needd to be isolated from the vehicle to perform the test ?

    I take it your screen doesn't tell you what was happening during the update as this onboard screen shows?

    That was back in 2017, about ½ dozen years ago when 'adjustability' was added to self park & summon on the model X. Does the prius not show what the improvement(s) do(es)?

    Disappointed once again this morning (Sunday).
    Charged the traction battery from the house ac power. Had the house solar system battery fully charged and the system was putting power back into the grid. I try and use this 'extra unused solar power' to charge the Prius traction battery father pumping it back into the grid when I can.
    After hours of charging the Prius from the solar, and then from the house solar battery (sun went down), I got to the low SOC charge reserve I setup on the house solar battery. Stopped the Prius traction battery charging, it was not quite at 100% (really only about 90%) but a good time to stop, before it got to Prius Battery max charge SOC.
    This morning I went out and switched the Prius to READY mode. The chkENG red light was on. Message on mulit-information display in the Information display area (on left side of meter display):
    "Hybrid System
    Malfunction"
    "Visit Your Dealer"
    and then
    "Check Engine
    Visit Your Dealer"
    12v battery was at 12.53v last night when traction battery charging was discontinued about 10 PM last night . Now its 12.44 v (05:30 PM).
    Will call for another appt tomorrow morning at the Local Toy Dealership.

    12.44V is not terribly low. Something else must be going on.

    The message you are getting is "hybrid-system malfunction." That has nothing to do with the 12-V battery. The 12-V battery isn't used in the READY mode, as the DC converter kicks in.

    The faster-than-normal drain of the 12-V battery is probably because of the third-party alarm system you installed.

    Let us know what the error codes are. Perhaps you have a bad lithium-ion cell in the battery. Who knows until you see the error codes.

    Same thing with people that put in their own high-end front & back security cameras.
    ½ dozen yrs ago BlackVue was the high end choice for these setups. It reaked havoc on our model X 12v without the acompanying BlackVue AUX 12v source. Best to do that with these aftermarket alarms as well.

    How do I read the checkENG diagnostic codes. Which OBDII port wart and which iPhone App works for 2024 PP SLE ?
    (PS: I did not install the alarm system. It was a required Dealer Installed Option by Clovis Toy dealer at the time I purchased the car. I think you are right and I need to return to that dealership (120 mile trip one way for me) to get the KARR alarm system turned off/defeated, and maybe removed from my PP)

    I think you can find a lot information for this in the Gen 4 forums. Gen 5 should be similar.

    try a 12v reset, maybe the warnings won't come back.
